Edo-period garden in Kumamoto featuring a miniature recreation of the Tokaido road and Mount Fuji.
Suizen-ji Joju-en is a Momoyama-style Japanese garden in Kumamoto, created in 1636 by the Hosokawa feudal lords. The garden features miniature representations of the 53 stations of the Tokaido road, including a prominent cone-shaped hill modeled after Mount Fuji. Fed by natural spring water from Mount Aso's underground aquifer, the central pond maintains crystal-clear water year-round, reflecting the garden's meticulously designed landscape.
