Edo-period strolling garden in Takamatsu with 75 acres of ponds, hills, and pine trees against Mt. Shiun.
Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu is one of Japan's finest and largest daimyo gardens, spanning 75 hectares including the forested Mount Shiun backdrop. Developed over more than a century by successive feudal lords, it features six ponds, thirteen scenic mounds, and meticulously pruned pine trees. The garden masterfully incorporates Mount Shiun as borrowed scenery, creating an ever-changing tapestry of landscape views that has earned it the title of Special Place of Scenic Beauty.
