Former copper refinery on Inujima island transformed into an eco-art museum using natural energy.
The Inujima Seirensho Art Museum on Inujima island transforms the ruins of a century-old copper refinery into an art space, designed by Hiroshi Sambuichi with artwork by Yukinori Yanagi. The museum uses no external energy — a natural ventilation system harnesses the chimney structures and solar heat to regulate temperature. Yanagi's installations reference Yukio Mishima's life and critique of Japan's modernization, set amid the atmospheric industrial ruins.
